SEMI promotes development programs in accordance with the principle of popular participation and growth from below. The organization believes that the growth of rural communities and of developing countries is sustainable from a social point of view through the revaluation of the weaker classes, protecting their dignity and harmonizing their presence within the productive and economic system. This program aims at allowing a large portion of the population to be able to enjoy the benefits of economic growth, in contrast to an elitist and oligarchical development of the economy. SEMI believes that the main instrument that produces sustainable development is the education of young people and adults, with special attention to the creation of those skills that have a strong impact in society as a whole.
